The LD950 is LG’s first passive 3D TV to hit the shores of the UK.

LD950

Unlike many other TVs the LD950 uses passive filter glasses, which are much cheaper than the prevailing active technology.

The LG LD950 is of course 3D ready and comes with a top quality 47 inch full HD screen. As can be expected from a LG the TV comes with great technology including TruMotion 200Hz (helps removes motion blur), 1080p, an invisible speaker, 4 HDMI ports and a USB port. There will also be four pairs of glasses so everyone can enjoy watching 3D films.

By using passive technology, LGs screen will use an overlaying filter designed to tweak the vibration of light which. When it is picked up by polarized glasses, the effect ends up resulting in 50 percent of the image being captured by the left eye and the remaining percentage by the right eye which creates a 3D effect.

Some say that due to the passive technology the quality will not be as high however by being passive users can wear inexpensive glasses which could certainly counter the cost associated with expensive active shutter glasses. The glasses for the LD950 are more-or-less identical to the ones which are provided in the present 3D cinemas. Check out our section on 3D glasses .
