Alice in Wonderland 3D

Alice in Wonderland was made for 3D and especially for a Tim Burton adaptation.

Although not truly based on the original Alice in Wonderland book (by Lewis Carroll) it is more a mixture of the ‘Jabberwocky’ and ‘Alice’. As a director Burton uses his eclectic and atmospheric talents to bring to life Wonderland and Alice’s experience within it. The Wonderland Burton presents is a grown-up version with themes of looming sexuality and physical transformation.

Actors such as Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter help stitch the film together and Wasikowska is a brilliant lead. However although the film is a fun way to spend a couple of hours and the 3D elements are entertaining we feel there is just too much CGI to engross the viewer. Alice in Wonderland has its moments of delight, humor and bedazzlemet but it also becomes more ordinary as it goes along, building to a battle climax similar to any number of other CGI reliant movies of the past few years.

Alice in Wonderland is certainly not one of Tim Burtons’ classics but it is a good attempt and worth a few quid to see in the cinema or on DVD.
