Avatar 3D
Avatar feature film
We believe that Avatar will always be seen as the benchmark for a successful 3Dfilm. Just like Star Wars still remains in our hearts as a true sci-fi classic over 30 years later so will Avatar continue to be seen as a true classic.
Avatar was released in 2009 and was nominate for nine academy awards (winning three including best art direction and visual effects). The film was written and directed by James Cameron starring the likes of Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang.
Basic premise – Avatar is set 2154, when humans are mining a precious mineral called unobtanium on the planet Pandora. The expansion of the mining colony threatens the local tribe of Navi. To facilitate relations with the Navi and humans scientists grow Navi-human hybrid bodies called avatars that are operated via a mental link. The main story revolves around human Jake (a marine) and Neytiri a female Navi.
In a nut shell Jake becomes engrossed into the Navis way of life eventually becoming initiated to the race and deciding to support the native aliens rather than his aggressive human race. Eventually there is a key battle between the humans and a combined alien force. We do not want to ruin the ending for you so you are going to have to go and buy it.

So is it really an industry changer. We believe it is as the 3D world created by Cameron will almost certainly be used by adventurous directors. The quality of the computer generated images (CGI) is breathtaking and you are literally absorbed into a beautiful alien world full of exotic plants and animals and incredible landscapes that just urge you to try and reach out and touch them.
Cast your mind back a few years you may also remember Cameron directed Oscar winning Titanic which was also a love story and this is certainly what you get with Avatar. Surprisingly the love story between Jake and Neytiri is not cheesy but emotionally vibrant. At times Avatar can be a bit too preachy especially with all the nature goodness, new-age messaging that Cameron tries to convey on a regular basis.
We certainly encourage all our readers to watch Avatar in 3D to experience the full force of Camerons magic however the 2D version is still a watchable and enjoyable movie.
