Despicable me

Despicable me is the new 3D film by Universal Studios and Illumination Entertainment.

The plot is a simple one – evil villain Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) devises a plan to regain the international crime spotlight by stealing the moon. Gru plans to do through this via a shrink ray which is acquired by his nemesis Vector. So in a nut shell Gru must use three orphans to make cookies that lead to Vectors demise.

Although over the last year Pixar has stolen the crown for 3D animation Illumination Entertainment does a great job in breathing life into their characters (especially the three girls). This film is very reminiscent of ‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs’ so if you liked that you’ll probably enjoy this film. Really what lets down the film is plot – unlike Pixar you simply do not become engrossed in the film. Yes there are laughs and undoubedtly the kids will enjoy this one but as an adult it does not hold the same level of interest.

VERDICT – Fun but no Pixar – one for the kids.
