Sony have launched their first 3D TV in the UK – HX803 (model KDL-46HX803) – and boy does it perform to Sony’s top standard.

The stylish TV comes in 2 screen sizes – 40 and 46 inches and uses Motionflow 200Hz technology to ensure that you can make the most from the 3D content. High def 1080p, high speed precision and LED boost are also new technological advances that ensure the image you receive is vibrant and explosive.
Sony 803 3D TV
Like most other 3D TV companies the Tv’s use active 3D technology which we believe gives a higher quality 3D image. Bear in mind unlike passive 3D you will need to buy pricey 3D glasses (the HX803 does not come with any) and a 3D transmitter.
The HX803 has a Freeview HD tuner and features Sony’s Bravia Internet Video service for on-demand programming, including YouTube and catch-up TV. Although it does not come with 3D glasses you do get ‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs’ and ‘Deep Sea’ thrown in for free.

Sony intend to follow the launch of the HX803 with LED 3D TVs integrated with Freeview HD tuners including the LX900 series.

3D TV coming of age
Jun 20th
“Coming to a screen near you soon” … we are certainly past this stage with 3D TVs. The main electronic manufacturers are expected to sell over 4,000,000 units this year with an estimated 13,000,000 units in 2011 … 3D televisions look like they are here to stay.
Future of 3D TV
Since the beginning of June over 25,000 3D Tvs have been sold in the UK and although its only a tiny percent of overall TV market share its growing rapidly. The figures were presented at GFK’s annual Consumer Electronic Conference who noted that “almost every notable manufacturer” is offering 3D in some shape or form. With the likes of Sony and Panasonic taking a staggered approach to the launch of their 3DTvs we are sure to see an increase in this number.

The gaming market will also be instrumental in growing the 3D TV market … who wouldn’t want to play Call of duty in 3D? A recent study has shown that over 60 percent of those interested in buying a 3D TV are games enthusiasts. Ben Arnold, senior analyst at CEA said “Like with 3DTV and other innovative technologies, consumers will need to experience a 3D video game to truly appreciate the experience”.
There are still a number of hurdles that are causing hesitance with consumers buying 3D TVs and they range from glasses-specific tvs, standardized video formats and content availability. However with so much focus and marketing being placed on this medium we are sure to see a splurge in 3D TVs.
